Srinagar, August 20: A promising opportunity has emerged for individuals in the academic sector seeking better job prospects. The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has officially announced the recruitment of 70 Assistant Professors (backlog vacancies) across various subjects for the Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir.

The subjects for which the 70 Assistant Professor positions have been declared include 1 in English Literature, 1 in Mathematics, 2 in Chemistry, 1 in Sociology, 23 in Political Science, 1 in Geology, 1 in Persian, 1 in Arabic, 6 in Punjabi, 3 in Anthropology, 1 in Clinical Biochemistry, 1 in Nutrition, 2 in Water Management, 3 in Kashmiri, 2 in Agricultural Technology, 2 in Functional English, 1 in Industrial Chemistry, 1 in Islamic Studies, 2 in Music and Instrumentation/Singing, 2 in Information Technology, 1 in Horticultural Technology, 2 in Music, 7 in Statistics, and 3 in Veterinary Technology.

The online application process for these Assistant Professor posts commenced on August 1, with the final date for applications set for August 31. Interested candidates can complete their registration process on the JKPSC official website before or by the deadline. Additionally, a correction window for those who make errors while filling out the application form will be active from September 1 to September 3.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or Ph.D. from a recognized institution or university with at least 55% marks in the relevant subject, having completed their Master’s degree before September 19, 1991. Furthermore, candidates are required to pass the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or CSIR, or any equivalent test recognized by UGC.

The maximum age limit for applicants is set at 40 years, calculated as of January 1, 2026. Candidates from reserved categories will receive age relaxation as per regulations.

Selection of eligible candidates will be based on scrutiny of applications, written examinations, document verification, and other stages. Selected candidates will receive a salary ranging from ₹15,600 to ₹39,100, along with an annual grade pay of ₹6,000 (pre-revision)/₹57,000 at Level-10.

While filling out the application form, candidates must pay the prescribed application fee online, which is set at ₹1,200 for the general category and ₹700 for reserved categories. PHC candidates are exempt from the registration fee.
