Prayagraj, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Water levels of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in Uttar Pradesh are steadily decreasing. As of Saturday morning, both rivers in Prayagraj remained below the danger mark. Local authorities confirmed that all embankments in the district are secure, with continuous monitoring of the river levels in place.
Recent data shows that the Yamuna River at Naini recorded a level of 81.02 meters, a drop of 46 centimeters over the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Ganges at Fafamau stood at 81.90 meters, down by nine centimeters in the same period. At Chatnagar, the Ganges was measured at 80.57 meters, reflecting a significant decrease of 44 centimeters.
Notably, at the STP near the Baksibandh, the water level also fell significantly, reaching 81.18 meters, a reduction of 51 centimeters within the last day. The danger mark for both rivers in Prayagraj is set at 84.734 meters, and current levels are well below this threshold.
On Saturday, no significant rainfall was reported in the district. The absence of rain and the ongoing decline in water levels have led authorities to declare a temporary state of relief. However, departments are on alert for any potential changes and have been instructed to maintain regular monitoring of the river levels.
In Varanasi, the Ganges is also experiencing a decline in water levels. According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Ganges at the Rajghat center has decreased by five centimeters to reach 69.28 meters in the last 12 hours. Officials noted that the water level is dropping by approximately one centimeter every two hours.
Currently, the water level of the Ganges in Varanasi remains below the warning mark, but boat operations have been suspended. Authorities continue to keep a close watch on the situation. With the reduction in water levels in both Prayagraj and Varanasi, the immediate threat of flooding has diminished, but officials emphasize the need for ongoing vigilance.
