Beijing, May 6: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing on Wednesday.
Araghchi provided an update on the current status of Iran-U.S. negotiations and outlined Iran’s perspective for the next steps. He emphasized that facts have proven that political crises cannot be resolved through military means. Iran will steadfastly protect its national sovereignty and dignity. Additionally, Iran aims to gather continuous similarities from peace talks to seek a comprehensive and lasting solution.
Iran appreciates and agrees with President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal for enhancing regional peace and stability. The country acknowledges China’s historically supportive stance and constructive efforts to prevent the situation from deteriorating. Iran trusts China and anticipates that it will continue to play a positive role in promoting peace and preventing war, while supporting a post-war regional framework that balances development and security.
Wang Yi remarked that the current regional situation is at a critical juncture between war and peace. China believes that a complete ceasefire is essential, and restarting the war is unacceptable. He stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue and reaffirmed China’s support for protecting Iran’s national sovereignty and security.
Regarding the Gulf issue, Wang noted that the international community shares concerns about safe and normal transit in the Gulf. China hopes that relevant parties will respond promptly to the international community’s strong appeals.
On the nuclear question, Wang praised Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons. He asserted that Iran has the legitimate right to peaceful use of nuclear energy. China believes that Gulf and Middle Eastern countries should take their fate into their own hands and encourages Iran to engage in dialogue with most Gulf nations.
