8th China-America Sister City Conference Held in San Francisco

San Francisco, June 6: The 8th China-America Sister City Conference took place on June 5, focusing on “Collaborating for High-Quality Urban Development in China and the United States.” This event followed a meeting between the heads of state from both countries and is viewed as a significant bilateral dialogue initiative. It received positive feedback from local governments and friendship organizations in both nations.

Over 150 representatives from 15 provinces and 12 cities in China, along with 160 delegates from 21 states and 36 cities in the United States, participated in the conference. They engaged in in-depth discussions and shared experiences on three key topics: green development and urban management, culture and tourism, and education and youth.

During the conference, five cooperation agreements were signed between relevant cities in China and the U.S. Additionally, achievements from 31 collaborative projects were showcased, covering sister city partnerships, cultural and tourism exchanges, and youth interactions.

Participants emphasized that sister city relationships are vital for strengthening friendship between the people of China and the U.S., promoting mutual benefits, and fostering shared development. They expressed commitment to advancing the agreements made by the heads of state, enhancing practical cooperation at the local level, and increasing people-to-people connections.

They also stated that they would continue to use sister city relations as a bridge to promote stable, healthy, and sustainable development in China-U.S. relations. It has been reported that there are currently 50 sister province/state and 238 sister city relationships established between China and the U.S. The China-America Sister City Conference, initiated by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in 2014, has become an important platform for local exchanges and cooperation between the two nations.
