Kuwait Resumes Air Traffic After Temporary Halt Due to Iranian Attacks

Kuwait, June 6: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in Kuwait announced on Saturday afternoon that air traffic has resumed in the country. This follows a temporary closure of the airspace due to security concerns stemming from Iranian attacks.

According to officials, Kuwait’s airspace was closed for a period as a precautionary measure. During this time, 11 flights from Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways were diverted to nearby airports, including those in Dammam and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The aviation department stated that the decision was made in response to “missile and drone threats.” However, once the situation stabilized, normal air traffic was reinstated.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Kuwait indicated that the airspace was temporarily closed for two hours due to security reasons. This precautionary measure was in effect from 4:15 AM to 6:15 AM.

Officials reported that the closure was implemented while the country faced missile and drone attacks from Iran, halting all flight operations.

The statement highlighted that after coordinating with relevant agencies and ensuring that the situation was under control and the threat had subsided, air traffic and incoming and outgoing flights were allowed to resume.

Following the reopening of the airspace, all diverted flights safely returned to Kuwait International Airport. Authorities confirmed that operations have returned to the highest safety standards.

On Saturday, it was reported that seven Iranian ballistic missiles were launched towards Bahrain and Kuwait. The Bahraini Foreign Ministry condemned this as a clear violation of its sovereignty and a threat to Gulf security.

Bahrain stated that all missiles were successfully intercepted and praised the vigilance of its own and Kuwait’s armed forces.

Bahrain has called for an immediate halt to Iranian attacks, full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, disclosure of maritime mines, and safe passage for over 20,000 stranded sailors.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that two U.S. military bases in Kuwait and the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain were targeted, stating that this was a response to U.S. actions.
