Voter Registration Drive Kicks Off in Jharkhand with Home Visits by BLOs

Ranchi, June 30: The special intensive revision of the voter list in Jharkhand commenced on Tuesday. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit homes until July 29 to provide partially filled enumeration forms to voters.

Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar urged citizens to fill out and submit their forms promptly. The initiative aims to ensure that no eligible Indian citizen is left out of the voter list, and that ineligible individuals are not included.

During a press conference on Tuesday evening, Kumar explained that BLOs will verify the details of voters. No documentation is required from voters at this stage. Those already mapped in the voter list typically won’t need to provide additional documents. Only in cases where verification necessitates it will documents be requested.

Voters residing outside their permanent address can also submit their forms online by contacting their BLO. If a migrant voter is unavailable, eligible relatives can fill out and submit the enumeration form on their behalf. Based on the forms submitted by all eligible citizens, the draft voter list will be published on August 5. Names in five categories—deceased, permanently relocated, duplicates, absentees, and non-citizens—will not be included in the draft list.

Kumar emphasized that the special intensive revision process is entirely transparent and participatory. It is monitored at multiple levels, and there is a provision for appeals if necessary. The information collected by BLOs will be verified first by BLO supervisors, followed by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).

He clarified that this process is exclusively for Indian citizens, and non-citizens should not participate. Meanwhile, the electoral department has launched a widespread awareness campaign on social media to disseminate accurate information. This campaign utilizes official district social media handles, digital creators, and other platforms to share details regarding the special revision.
