Lucknow, June 30: Kamal Akhtar, the MLA from the Kanth constituency in Moradabad, has resigned from his position as the Chief Whip in the assembly. This decision reportedly stems from recent disagreements with Moradabad MP Ruchi Veera. Akhtar has denied any personal grievances, stating that he resigned at the directive of National President Akhilesh Yadav. His resignation has sparked discussions about organizational changes and new political alignments within the party.
Akhtar emphasized that his resignation should not be linked to any controversy or dissatisfaction. “I resigned on the orders of National President Akhilesh Yadav. The process of change within the party and its positions is ongoing. I have no grievances against anyone. I am a dedicated worker of the Samajwadi Party and will continue to work with full commitment under Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership,” he said.
In an interview with a news agency, Akhtar mentioned that responsibilities within the party are assigned to individuals, and no position is permanent. He noted that the National President has instructed that he will not continue in this role and that someone else will be given the responsibility. “I trust that whoever is assigned will perform well for the party,” he added.
He reiterated his willingness to fulfill any responsibilities assigned to him. Addressing rumors of discord with MP Ruchi Veera, he stated, “This has nothing to do with me. She is doing her work, and I am doing mine.”
Akhtar described himself as a small worker who has previously served in various capacities within the party. He stated, “I have fulfilled the responsibilities given to me. My leader’s order was to give others a chance, and it is our duty to provide opportunities for others who will contribute positively to the party.”
His statement comes at a time when discussions about his differences with MP Ruchi Veera have been making headlines in Moradabad politics. According to party sources, there was a dispute between the two leaders regarding organizational coordination and regional activities, prompting the SP leadership to call both to Lucknow for a meeting. It is reported that Akhilesh Yadav listened to both leaders and attempted to resolve the conflict. The meeting included Rajya Sabha member Javed Ali, former MLA Yusuf Ansari, district president Jaiveer Singh Yadav, and MP representative Khushnood Ali.
After the meeting, it was believed that the issue had been settled, but Akhtar’s resignation has reignited political discussions. Notably, Kamal Akhtar was appointed as the Chief Whip of the Samajwadi Party in the assembly on July 28, 2024, after the previous Chief Whip, Manoj Kumar Pandey, resigned following a vote that deviated from the party line during the Rajya Sabha elections.
