Gaya, March 9: The Vishnupad Corridor is set to be developed in Gaya, Bihar, preserving the sanctity and cultural significance of the rituals associated with Pind Daan and Pitri Paksha. A crucial meeting was held on Monday, chaired by District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar, to discuss the development and beautification of the proposed corridor, known worldwide as a site for liberation.
The meeting was attended by government officials, town planners, architects, priests, members of the Samvad Sadan committee, social workers, and various ward councilors, among other key stakeholders.
During the meeting, decisions from the previous gathering were reviewed, confirming that the 16 altars surrounding the temple’s sanctum will remain intact. Additionally, the proposal to expand the temple complex’s current boundaries was also considered.
It was clarified that the traditional arrangement for Pind Daan will be maintained, with the ritual conducted along the banks of the Falgu River, as has been the practice for centuries. The possibility of expanding the available space for the cremation ground was also discussed.
A proposal was made to preserve the nearby Shijuwar Dharmshala as a heritage structure. Similarly, efforts will be made to identify and protect other historical buildings in the temple area as heritage sites.
The meeting also reached an agreement to develop Sitakund, Mangala Gauri, and Akshayvat as significant components of the Vishnupad Corridor project. District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar stated, “All stakeholders’ suggestions have been taken into account. The aim of the Vishnupad Corridor project is to develop a world-class pilgrimage site, keeping in mind Gaya’s religious heritage, cultural identity, and the convenience of pilgrims.”
