Violent Clashes During Saraswati Idol Immersion in Lohardaga and Hazaribagh

In Jharkhand, violent clashes broke out during the Saraswati idol immersion ceremonies in Lohardaga and Hazaribagh districts, resulting in several injuries and a tense atmosphere. Following the incidents, the administration deployed a large contingent of police forces in the affected areas to restore order.

Clash in Lohardaga’s Baridih Village

On Sunday, during the Saraswati puja idol immersion in Baridih village under Kudu police station in Lohardaga district, a dispute between two communities escalated into a violent confrontation. Both groups, armed with sticks and traditional weapons, faced off, causing panic in the village. Several individuals sustained injuries, and three of them were admitted to Kudu Community Health Centre, where they are undergoing treatment.

The conflict reportedly began on Saturday evening when the Saraswati idol, during a procession, came in contact with the roof of a house. This incident sparked arguments between the two parties, which were temporarily resolved through mutual understanding. However, due to insufficient vigilance and lack of adequate police patrolling overnight, tensions remained high. On Sunday morning, the dispute reignited, leading to violent clashes.

Police, along with a Special Security Battalion bike squad, promptly reached the scene. Lohardaga Superintendent of Police Sadik Anwar Rizvi and senior administrative officials also arrived to control the situation. Additional police personnel have been deployed in and around the village to maintain peace.

Stone Pelting in Hazaribagh’s Beltu Village

Similarly, in Beltu village of Keredari block in Hazaribagh district, a disagreement erupted between two groups during the idol immersion procession late Saturday night. The confrontation turned violent, involving stone pelting. Several people, including police officers and jawans, were injured in the fray.

Upon receiving information, Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner Shashi Ranjan and Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan reached the spot with police forces. They worked through the night to bring the situation under control. The administration has since deployed sufficient police personnel in the area. According to the Hazaribagh police, the situation is currently peaceful, and a thorough investigation is underway.

Appeal for Peace and Legal Action

The authorities have appealed to the public in both districts to maintain peace and avoid spreading rumours. Police have assured that those responsible for the violent incidents will be identified and dealt with according to the law.
