Manipur CM Condemns Bomb Attack, Calls for Peace Amid Rising Tensions

Imphal, April 7: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has strongly condemned the bomb attack carried out by suspected armed militants at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl, while their mother sustained injuries.

The Chief Minister assured that the government would identify and punish all those involved in this heinous crime. He noted that violent incidents often occur whenever the government attempts to establish peace and harmony in the state. He expressed concern that some individuals are pursuing personal interests that undermine the current peace process, even as the state is moving towards normalcy.

Khemchand stated that this latest act of violence aims to destabilize the newly formed government, which was established by the center after nearly a year of President’s Rule.

He appealed to people from all communities, castes, and religions to renounce any acts of terrorism. He urged the public to refrain from activities such as strikes, blockades, and damage to public property, as these actions could exacerbate the suffering of the populace.

The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of the two children and assured that the government would provide all necessary assistance.

He visited Raj Medicity in Imphal, where the injured mother is receiving treatment, and instructed the hospital administration to ensure she receives comprehensive care and necessary treatment for a swift recovery.

Political party representatives expressed deep concern over the recent law and order situation and emphasized the need to maintain peace, unity, and communal harmony. Leaders shared their views and assured full cooperation in restoring normalcy.

It was decided in the meeting that those responsible for the incident should be identified and arrested promptly, with strict action taken according to the law. All present leaders unanimously agreed to appeal to the public to remain calm, avoid any form of violence or protests, refrain from damaging public properties, and cooperate with authorities in maintaining law and order.
