Karnataka Anti-Corruption Raids Target Officials in Mangaluru and Bellary

Bengaluru, April 7: The Karnataka Lokayukta has conducted raids at the office and residence of Baboo B.N., an Assistant Drug Controller, in Mangaluru. This operation targeted his premises due to allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The raids were initiated based on information provided by Police Inspector Chandrashekar K.N., who accused Baboo B.N. of accumulating wealth beyond his legitimate earnings during his service. A case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Mangaluru Lokayukta Police Station on March 6.

During the investigation, six teams from the Lokayukta Police, led by Superintendent B.P. Dinesh Kumar, executed searches on March 7. The properties involved included residential and commercial establishments in Bagepalli town, Chickballapur district, as well as flats and houses in Bengaluru and Mangaluru.

In total, assets valued at ₹33,704,000 were seized, including cash amounting to ₹2,364,000 and valuable gold and silver jewelry found at his Bengaluru residence. Lokayukta officials stated that this action is part of a stringent policy against corruption, and further legal proceedings will follow.

Additionally, the Lokayukta team raided the residence of Shivanna, the Deputy Director of the Fisheries Department, in Bellary. This raid was also linked to allegations of disproportionate assets. Reports indicate that Shivanna owns 14 properties in Bellary, including three houses in the city, and a total of 44 acres of land across various locations.

During the search, ₹850,000 in cash was discovered, along with ₹2 million in bank deposits and three two-wheelers. The properties are registered in Shivanna’s and his family’s names. Sources suggest that he has also acquired substantial undisclosed assets. The investigation by Lokayukta officials is ongoing.
