Substantial amounts of cash have already been confiscated during raids across multiple locations in the state. The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled for April 29, covering Kolkata and districts in South Bengal.
To prevent the influx of money and weapons from outside the state, strict monitoring and raids are being carried out to deter any potential disruptions. This morning, a raid took place in the Shyambazar area, involving central forces, the Static Surveillance Team (SST), and officials from the Burtola police station, who were inspecting various vehicles.
According to police, one vehicle was seized for inspection. Suspicion arose when two passengers were found inside. A senior police officer revealed that the duo was carrying a black leather bag. Upon opening the bag, a large sum of money was discovered, leading to their arrest. During preliminary questioning, neither individual could provide a receipt or accurate information regarding the cash. They were subsequently taken to the police station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sajidur Rahman and Vivek Ojha. The total amount seized was ₹19,94,500, all in ₹500 notes.
