New Delhi, May 23: Vinod Bansal, the national spokesperson for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, has praised the Uttarakhand government’s recent decision to issue guidelines prohibiting prayers in public spaces during Bakrid. He stated that this is a timely and appropriate decision, emphasizing that public areas should not be used for religious displays or disruptions.
Bansal noted a growing awareness among citizens in the country, with people becoming more vigilant about adhering to the law, and governments taking strict measures in this regard.
He commended the Uttarakhand government for its existing stringent laws, asserting that these new directives clearly indicate the government’s seriousness about maintaining public order. He remarked that neither can one showcase power in the name of prayer, nor can one obstruct traffic by creating makeshift religious sites.
According to Bansal, there are already designated places such as mosques and madrasas for prayers, making it inappropriate to conduct prayers on public roads. He stated, “This should not happen anywhere in the country. Muslims possess enough property, even more than the number of Muslims themselves.”
He questioned the notion that any place where a prayer is held or a mosque is established can be declared a house of Allah, asking, “Do you mean to say that wherever you pray on the road, it can be declared as waqf property?”
Bansal also addressed the issue of cow slaughter, pointing out that it is already banned in many regions of the country, and awareness on this topic is increasing within society. He mentioned that governments are taking strict actions to ensure compliance with the law.
He expressed concern over individuals who create disputes regarding cow-related issues during Bakrid or other occasions, which he deemed inappropriate. He reiterated that in Indian tradition, the cow is revered as a mother, and the Constitution also emphasizes its protection.
Bansal concluded by stating that respect for the law is essential for everyone; otherwise, societal tensions may escalate. He emphasized that brotherhood can only be achieved when all individuals respect each other’s beliefs and sentiments.
