VinFast VF 5 Unveiled: A Stylish Rival to Tata Punch EV with Impressive Range

Mumbai, May 25: The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market is currently witnessing significant growth. Vietnam’s leading electric car manufacturer, VinFast, has recently made headlines in the Indian auto industry with the introduction of its three-row family electric car, the VF MPV 7. However, the Vietnamese brand is not stopping there.

VinFast is set to launch two affordable vehicles—the VinFast VF 3 hatchback and the VinFast VF 5 subcompact electric SUV—to further solidify its presence in the Indian market.

Upon its launch in India, the budget-friendly VF 3 will compete with the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV. Meanwhile, the larger VinFast VF 5 will face stiff competition from India’s top-selling subcompact electric SUV, the Tata Punch EV.

Battery Options and Range

For Indian consumers, driving experience and battery life are crucial when selecting an electric vehicle. VinFast recognizes this and will offer the VF 5 with two different battery pack options in India.

The first variant features a 29.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack, primarily marketed in countries like Vietnam and Indonesia. The front-axle electric motor produces a robust 95bhp and 135Nm of torque. This configuration allows for a range of 268km (NEDC range) on a single charge.

For those who frequently travel long distances, the SUV will also be available with a larger 37.23kWh battery pack. This powerful motor generates 136bhp and 135Nm of torque, providing a range of 326 kilometers on a single charge—ideal for daily commutes and weekend getaways.

Size and Dimensions

Potential buyers often inquire about how the VinFast VF 5 compares to the Tata Punch EV in terms of cabin space and overall dimensions. The VF 5 measures 3,967 mm in length, 1,723 mm in width, and 1,579 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,514 mm.

In contrast, the Tata Punch EV measures 3,880 mm in length, 1,742 mm in width, and 1,622 mm in height. Notably, the VinFast VF 5 is approximately 87 mm longer than the Tata Punch EV and has a wheelbase that is 69 mm longer, enhancing rear passenger legroom. However, it is 19 mm wider and 43 mm taller than the Punch EV.

Boot Space and Ground Clearance

Considering the challenging terrain and large speed bumps on Indian roads, the electric SUV boasts a ground clearance of 169 mm, ensuring the underbody remains protected on rough surfaces.

The standard boot space is 260 liters, which can be expanded to 900 liters by folding the 60:40 split rear seats. Additionally, the Vietnamese model features sporty 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Indonesian variant comes with durable 16-inch steel wheels.

Interior and Premium Features

Entering the cabin of the global VinFast VF 5, you are welcomed by a sporty and modern ambiance. The car features an all-black interior with silver accents on the dashboard, infotainment display borders, a three-spoke steering wheel, and air vents, enhancing its premium appeal.

For entertainment and connectivity, it includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone integration, alongside a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster for the driver. Leatherette seat covers, a powerful 4-speaker sound system, and keyless entry and start features contribute to the cabin’s luxurious feel.

To combat changing weather and pollution, the vehicle is equipped with a PM2.5 air filter, ensuring clean air inside the cabin. It also features automatic headlights and front and rear USB ports for mobile charging.
