Shocking Incident in Maharashtra: Husband and Friend Accused of Rape

Mumbai, August 30: In a disturbing incident from Maharashtra’s Chandrapur, a husband allegedly committed a heinous act against his wife just 20 days after their marriage. The couple had an interfaith registered marriage on August 6, 2026. The husband, identified as Hasan alias Altaf Salim Sheikh, reportedly acted out of suspicion regarding his wife’s character.

According to police reports, the couple often quarreled over phone calls from unknown numbers. On August 25, after finding his wife’s phone busy, Hasan went to her mother’s house. There, he confronted her about a phone call, snatched her mobile, and left in anger.

The victim later went to a sewing training center near her home. It was then that Hasan, accompanied by his 19-year-old friend Kunal Borkar, arrived on a motorcycle. Under the pretense of taking her to a location, they drove to a secluded area near the crematorium in Shaktinagar Colony.

Allegations state that Hasan first assaulted his wife and then forced his friend to do the same. After committing the crime, both men fled the scene.

Upon returning home, the victim informed her family about the incident. They promptly took her to the Durgapur police station to file a complaint. Acting on her report, the police arrested both Hasan and Kunal.

Inspector Santosh Shegawkar from Durgapur police station confirmed the incident, stating, “A woman filed a complaint that her husband and his friend sexually assaulted her. We initiated an investigation and arrested both suspects, who are now in police custody.”

The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 376(1) of the Indian Penal Code for gang rape. Both men have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
