Kolkata, August 30: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mentioning the legendary Bengali actor, the late Uttam Kumar, in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program.
The Chief Minister stated that the Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of Uttam Kumar is a matter of pride for the people of the state, especially as it comes just three days before the centenary celebration of the iconic actor.
In a social media post, Chief Minister Adhikari said, “Today, I had the privilege of listening to the latest episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ It was heartwarming to hear that our Prime Minister paid a splendid tribute to the great Uttam Kumar on the occasion of his 100th birth anniversary, which will be celebrated on September 3.”
He noted that the Prime Minister effectively highlighted Uttam Kumar’s unparalleled cinematic talent, charisma, and enduring artistic legacy. The actor’s timeless performances continue to define the cultural essence of Bengali cinema and inspire generations of storytellers and film enthusiasts worldwide.
In his social media statement, the Chief Minister further expressed, “On behalf of the people of West Bengal, I sincerely thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for celebrating our beloved icon’s immortal legacy on this national platform.”
Earlier, the Chief Minister announced that Uttam Kumar’s 100th birth anniversary would be celebrated with a four-day mega festival from September 3 to September 6, along with various events throughout the year.
As part of the celebrations, guided walks will be organized, taking fans of the legendary actor to historical sites in Kolkata linked to his life and career.
Additionally, the postal department will issue a special commemorative stamp and postal cover to mark this occasion.
