Tashkent, August 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday that India and Uzbekistan have elevated their relationship to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership. During his address after being awarded Uzbekistan’s highest honor, the ‘Oli Darajali Dostlik’ Order, Modi praised President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.
He stated, “Thanks to your visionary leadership and the spirit of friendship towards India, our relations have continuously strengthened. Our partnership is reaching new heights, and as a result, we have now elevated our relationship to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.”
Modi dedicated this honor to the centuries-old friendship and shared heritage between India and Uzbekistan. He expressed that this recognition is not just for him but for 1.4 billion Indians.
“I feel immense pride in receiving Uzbekistan’s highest honor. You used the term ‘dostlik,’ which resonates deeply with the people of India. There is hardly a family in our country that does not use the word ‘friend’ multiple times a day. Today, you have truly brought the spirit of ‘dostlik’ to life. This term embodies the true essence of India-Uzbekistan relations,” he remarked.
He emphasized, “This honor is not for an individual but for the 1.4 billion people of India. On behalf of all my countrymen, I sincerely thank the people of Uzbekistan, their government, and my friend, the honorable President. I humbly accept this honor and dedicate it to our centuries-old friendship and shared heritage.”
The President of Uzbekistan awarded Prime Minister Modi this prestigious honor for his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations.
Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with Uzbekistan. He stated that both nations will work together to become a united voice for the Global South.
“Any honor brings respect and pride, but it also comes with great responsibility. As I accept this honor today, I deeply feel that responsibility. From this historic land of Uzbekistan, I assure the people that India will never shy away from its responsibilities and will always uphold this friendship,” he said.
He added, “Our two countries will become a united voice for the Global South with utmost sincerity and dedication. We will strive for the welfare of the people of the Global South and continue to work together for a better future for all humanity.”
