Chennai, April 28: Actor-politician Vijay will meet all 234 candidates contesting in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections under the banner of the Tamilaga Vetria Kazhagam (TVK) on April 30. Party sources confirmed this information on Tuesday.
The meeting is expected to cover post-election reviews, feedback at the constituency level, and preparations for the vote counting scheduled for May 4.
This gathering comes after Tamil Nadu recorded a historic voter turnout of 85.15% in the Assembly elections held on April 23. This figure is reported to be the highest since independence.
The Election Commission of India hailed this as a significant achievement for democracy, attributing it to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign conducted before the elections.
During this campaign, approximately 7.4 million names were removed from the voter list due to deaths, duplicate entries, and permanent relocations. Officials state that this has made the voter list more accurate and contributed to the increased voter turnout.
Political analysts believe that Vijay’s entry into active politics has particularly energized the youth. While opinions vary on the extent of his influence, it is widely accepted that his presence has invigorated the electoral atmosphere.
In response to the voter turnout, Vijay described the April 23 voting as a “historic moment” in Tamil Nadu’s political history. He noted that achieving over 85% turnout is unprecedented and reflects strong public participation in the democratic process.
After the voting concluded, Vijay traveled from Chennai to Madurai by private plane and then proceeded to Tiruchendur by road to offer prayers at the famous Tiruchendur Murugan Temple. He later returned to Chennai.
The meeting on April 30 is considered crucial for TVK’s future strategy. Previously, on April 24, Vijay held initial discussions with senior party leaders. This upcoming meeting with the candidates could play a vital role in determining the party’s post-election direction.
