Vellapalli Natesan Thanks PM Modi After Receiving Padma Bhushan, Criticises Congress

Alappuzha: Vellapalli Natesan, General Secretary of the SNDP Yogam representing the Ezhava community, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after being honoured with the Padma Bhushan award. He admitted he did not expect to receive this prestigious recognition.

In an interaction with a news agency, Natesan revealed that the state government did not recommend his name for the award. He said, “Someone must have recommended me and collected my biodata to share it. I thank those people and especially Prime Minister Modi.”

Meanwhile, Natesan launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of excessive dependence on the Muslim League. He described the League as a well-organised religious force that exploits divisions among Hindus for vote bank politics.

He further stated, “This is not just a Muslim-majority area; it also has a significant Hindu population. If Priyanka Gandhi wants to win in Wayanad, she must gain support from Malappuram. There is no doubt that Congress is under the control of the League.”

Natesan criticised the Congress leadership for centralising power, saying, “When they came to power, they announced ministers and departments from their party headquarters. Oommen Chandy became Chief Minister in this way. The Chief Minister should appoint ministers and allocate departments. Ignoring this and establishing religious rule is an attempt to break Kerala’s unity that is progressing with brotherhood.”

He also accused the United Democratic Front (UDF) government of neglecting the interests of his community during its tenure. “Even after coming to power, they did not protect our interests. Despite our applications, we did not get a primary school in Malappuram. The claim that we did not apply is a blatant lie,” he asserted.

Regarding the current Kerala government led by Pinarayi Vijayan, Natesan said, “The present government has successfully maintained harmony and peace during its nine and a half years in office. In contrast, the Marad riots, which caused significant loss of life and property, occurred during the UDF rule.”
