Mumbai, June 7: Vaibhav Suryaanshi has captured the hearts of cricket fans worldwide with his explosive and charismatic batting style. Having made a mark in major leagues like the IPL, he has now secured a spot in the Indian national team. Santosh Pingulkar, the childhood coach of out-of-favor batsman Prithvi Shaw, praised Vaibhav, calling him a crucial asset for Indian cricket.
In an interview, Santosh Pingulkar stated, “He is playing with remarkable maturity. If Vaibhav continues in this manner, he could become a significant asset for India.”
He added, “Vaibhav possesses quality; he quickly grasps the game. He is not just a slogger but also a good hitter and a precise timer of the ball. Maintaining consistency will be vital for him. If he continues to bat like this, he can set numerous records and help India win crucial matches.”
Vaibhav showcased his explosive batting during IPL 2025, where he scored the fastest IPL century for India. In IPL 2026, the Rajasthan Royals provided him with the opportunity to open the batting, and the left-handed player excelled. At just 15 years old, he stunned the cricketing world by dominating bowlers like Starc, Cummins, Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj, Rabada, and Hazlewood. He amassed a remarkable 776 runs in 16 matches, including one century and five half-centuries, earning him the Orange Cap. During the season, he also set a record for the most sixes in a single season with 72 sixes.
Following this performance, there were expectations that he might be included in the Ireland T20 series. However, when the BCCI announced the Indian team for the Ireland and England T20 series, as well as the 2026 Asian Games, Vaibhav’s name was included in all three tournaments. He now has the chance to become the youngest cricketer to play for the Indian team.
