Uttar Pradeshs Defense Industrial Corridor Gains Momentum with Land Allocation to BEL

Lucknow, April 8: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has officially handed over a land allocation letter for 75 hectares in the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor’s Chitrakoot node to Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). This initiative is seen as a significant institutional step towards the systematic and phased development of the Chitrakoot Defense Node. It aims to strengthen defense manufacturing infrastructure in the state and accelerate industrial growth in the Bundelkhand region.

During the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that this initiative will play a crucial role in establishing Uttar Pradesh as a strong and reliable name in defense manufacturing. It will also provide a new impetus to the overall economic and industrial development of the Bundelkhand region. Strategically located in Central India, the Chitrakoot node is emerging as a hub for defense production due to its excellent logistical connectivity and geographical advantages. This development is expected to become a major foundation for investment, job creation, and high-tech industrial growth in the future.

CM Yogi announced that BEL will invest approximately ₹562.5 crore to establish an advanced manufacturing unit for state-of-the-art radar and air defense systems. This initiative will not only enhance high-tech production in the defense sector but also provide a new direction for industrial efficiency and technical capabilities in the state. It is anticipated that over 300 direct job opportunities will be created, while indirect job creation in supporting and allied sectors will open new avenues for local youth.

The Chief Minister noted that the establishment of this high-tech unit in Chitrakoot will generate quality employment opportunities for local youth, significantly reducing the need for migration to other sectors for jobs. This project will not only strengthen the regional economy but also institutionally promote the development of technically skilled human resources, research, and innovation, thereby bolstering the creation of a modern industrial ecosystem in the state.

He added that this initiative will provide a solid foundation for the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) vision, decisively strengthening indigenous production capabilities in the defense sector. It will reduce dependence on imports and facilitate the establishment of a robust, self-reliant, and integrated defense industrial ecosystem in the country. Furthermore, this project will accelerate the development of supporting and MSME-based industries, creating new opportunities for advanced technological collaboration, innovation, and knowledge transfer, which will help position the state as a key center for defense production.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that Chitrakoot, known for its rich cultural and spiritual heritage, is now progressing towards establishing a new and powerful identity in defense manufacturing. The proposed advanced industrial unit will not only give a new momentum to regional development but also work towards realizing the state’s commitment to balanced, inclusive, and multi-dimensional growth, establishing a strong coordination between traditional heritage and modern industrial advancement.
