Lucknow, May 27: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly advancing towards digital self-reliance. In this context, the state government’s ambitious ‘Project Ganga’ is set to go live soon. Almost all major milestones associated with the project have been completed, and preparations for its ground-level implementation are in the final stages.
The aim of Project Ganga is to bring modern digital services to villages and small towns, ensuring that rural areas can connect directly with high-speed internet and new technologies. The project will establish a vast network of broadband connectivity, free public Wi-Fi, cybersecurity, IPTV, and other digital services in rural regions.
Project Ganga began with initial seeding in July 2025. Strategic discussions with various government departments and stakeholders commenced in December 2025. A concept note was shared in January 2026, and on March 9, an MoU was signed in the presence of Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna. Following this, processes such as media coverage, final DPR, and communication with district magistrates through the MSME department were completed. By April 2026, strategic talks regarding financial enablement with banking partners had also begun, making the project fully ready to go live.
Under Project Ganga, a digital service provider network will be established to ensure internet access and modern digital services in rural areas. This will enable high-speed broadband, public Wi-Fi, and access to OTT platforms in every household. Additionally, CCTV-based security solutions, cybersecurity services, and enhanced digital connectivity for institutions will be implemented. The project’s goal is not just to provide internet access but also to prepare villages for future digital technologies.
Special focus is placed on connecting rural youth with digital employment through Project Ganga. Facilities such as freelancing, remote work, online vocational training, and digital libraries will be made available. This initiative will allow young people in villages to benefit from digital opportunities similar to those in major cities.
It is believed that this project could give a new boost to the digital economy in rural Uttar Pradesh and create new job opportunities. The Yogi government is convinced that digital connectivity is the backbone of the future economy. In this light, Project Ganga will strengthen the vision of ‘Connected Villages, Prosperous UP.’ The government’s effort is to ensure that the benefits of digital services reach the last person in society, establishing Uttar Pradesh as a technically self-reliant state.
