
Lucknow, March 21: On the occasion of International Forest Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honored courageous children at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan. These children had bravely defended themselves and their families from leopard attacks. CM Yogi praised their actions, calling them inspirations for society. He also recognized employees and social organizations for their outstanding work in forestry and wildlife conservation.
During the event, checks were distributed to two beneficiary farmers as part of the Carbon Credit Project.
Among those honored were 10-year-old Achhelal from Bahraich and 18-year-old Tanu Singh from Prayagraj. Achhelal showcased remarkable bravery on December 6, 2025, when a leopard attacked while he was cycling home with his father. He defended himself, causing the leopard to flee.
On January 8, 2026, Tanu Singh displayed courage when a leopard entered her home in the village of Chhivaiya in the Jhunsi area. She successfully rescued two small children and confined the leopard in a room, allowing for a safe rescue without any casualties.
The Chief Minister also recognized forestry department employees for their contributions. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to sub-regional forest officer Pushpendra Singh from Moradabad, forest guard Sunil Kumar Gond from Hamirpur, forest guard Shivam Kumar from Rampur, and gardener Reena Sharma from Etah.
Social organizations excelling in forestry were also acknowledged. Brijendra Pal Singh, national organization minister of Lokbharati, and Satyendra Kumar Srivastava from Helping Hands Service Institute in Jhansi received honors. Additionally, checks were given to beneficiaries Ishwar Chand from Kushinagar and Sunita from Raebareli under the Carbon Credit Project.
Before the program commenced, the Chief Minister visited an exhibition organized by the forest department. He was accompanied by Minister of State for Forests (Independent Charge) Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena and Minister of State for Forests K.P. Malik, among others.
