Lucknow, February 8: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly session, Assembly President Satish Mahana has urged all party leaders to prioritize decorum and respectful proceedings. He emphasized that dialogue, discussion, and healthy debate are the cornerstones of parliamentary democracy, stating that the Assembly should be a platform for discourse rather than chaos.
Addressing a multi-party meeting held at the Assembly building, Mahana noted that agreement and disagreement are natural aspects of democracy. However, he pointed out that in a tumultuous environment, neither the government can present its views effectively nor can the opposition. He assured that every member would be given ample opportunity to express their opinions, and if necessary, proceedings could extend into the evening.
Mahana highlighted that the Uttar Pradesh Assembly is the largest in the country and sets a standard for legislative bodies nationwide. He remarked that the past four years have seen significant discussions in the Assembly, indicating a strengthening of democratic traditions. Mahana expects all party leaders to present their views within the bounds of parliamentary decorum and engage in debates in a cordial atmosphere.
He expressed confidence that, similar to previous sessions, there would be positive cooperation in the upcoming session. Leaders present at the multi-party meeting praised Mahana’s leadership style, noting that under his guidance, there have been continuous positive changes in the Assembly’s proceedings. They also expressed optimism that new initiatives would further strengthen the Assembly’s functioning.
During the meeting, Leader of the House and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared his thoughts. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna reassured all party leaders of the government’s commitment to accelerating development and addressing public interest issues positively. He echoed the Chief Minister’s call for peaceful cooperation in the Assembly.
Opposition Leader Mata Prasad Pandey, along with leaders from various parties, including Ram Niwas Verma of the Apna Dal (Sonelal), Rajpal Baliyan of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, Om Prakash Rajbhar of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, Ramesh Singh of the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal, Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ from the Indian National Congress, and Vinod Saroj from the Janata Party, shared their views and assured cooperation for orderly proceedings in the House. Prior to this, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee was held under the chairmanship of Assembly President Satish Mahana to discuss important topics related to the upcoming session.
