Adelaide, 13 December. The third Test of the Ashes series between Australia and England is set to begin on 17 December in Adelaide. Experienced opening batsman Usman Khawaja, who missed the second Test in Brisbane due to injury, has declared himself fully fit for the upcoming match.

Speaking to the media in Adelaide, Khawaja said, “I am 100 percent fit for the Adelaide Test. Whether I get a place in the playing eleven or not is beyond my control.”

Khawaja added, “I expect to play in Adelaide, but selection is not in my hands. With experience, I have become comfortable focusing on what I can control. Everything else is out of my hands. Let’s see what happens.”

Khawaja missed the Brisbane Test due to injury, and his selection for the Adelaide Test remains uncertain. If included in the playing eleven, he may have to bat in the middle order. Travis Head has impressed as an opener in the Perth and Brisbane Tests, scoring a crucial century in Perth to help the team secure victory.

The 39-year-old Khawaja’s age is also a factor in selection discussions. Although supported by senior players like Steve Smith and Pat Cummins, the team management may prefer to give opportunities to younger players.

Khawaja played in the Perth Test, batting in the middle order and scoring just 2 runs. Over his career, he has played 85 Test matches, scoring 6,055 runs with 16 centuries and 27 half-centuries. He is undoubtedly in the final phase of his career.
