New Delhi, March 13: The 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off on March 28. Ahead of the tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani. Muzarabani showcased an impressive performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, taking 13 wickets in six matches.
Muzarabani brings substantial T20 experience, having played 89 matches for Zimbabwe and claimed 106 wickets. His bowling economy in the shortest format stands at 7.24. The franchise noted in a release, “Standing at 6 feet 8 inches, Blessing Muzarabani has established himself as one of Zimbabwe’s premier fast bowlers in T20 cricket. He is known for his pace and ability to take wickets at crucial moments.”
Muzarabani will join the team in Kolkata on March 17. His arrival is expected to significantly strengthen KKR’s bowling attack. He was the leading wicket-taker for Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup 2026, playing a vital role in victories against Australia and Sri Lanka.
His experience in subcontinental conditions and current form could prove beneficial for the three-time IPL champions. Muzarabani was signed by Islamabad United to replace Shamar Joseph in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), but he withdrew from the PSL to seize the opportunity in the IPL.
Previously, Muzarabani was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team that won the IPL 2025 title, although he did not get a chance to play. KKR released Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman in compliance with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directives. KKR will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 29.
