US Urges Europe to Take Greenland Security Seriously, Vows Possible Action

Washington has urged European countries to treat the issue of Greenland with greater seriousness, highlighting its crucial role in global security. US Vice President J.D. Vance emphasized that President Donald Trump’s statements on Greenland should not be underestimated, as the island holds significant strategic importance not only for the United States but for the entire world.

Speaking at a White House press conference, Vance described Greenland as a vital component of the global missile defence system. He warned that if European allies do not take concrete measures to enhance security in the region, the United States might have to step in and act independently.

Addressing concerns about the possibility of Greenland being sold, Vance clarified that the US administration intends to continue pursuing the matter through diplomatic channels. “We will communicate some things privately and others publicly. This process will continue,” he said.

Vance also mentioned that Secretary of State Rubio is expected to meet with leaders from Denmark and Greenland in the coming weeks to discuss these issues further.

In response to criticism over President Trump’s comments, Vance stated that the media and certain European groups are overreacting to the situation. He reiterated that Greenland is essential to missile security worldwide and pointed out that some hostile powers have shown deep interest in the region.

He further revealed that the United States is pressuring its European allies to strengthen the security of Greenland. “We are simply asking our European friends to take the protection of this territory more seriously. If they do not, the United States will have to take action,” Vance asserted.

However, he did not specify what kind of action the US might take, noting that the final decision rests with President Trump.

Greenland is an autonomous territory under Denmark’s sovereignty. Located in the Arctic region, the island has long been considered strategically valuable for security and early warning systems in the North Atlantic area.
