India’s Defense Exports Surge by 62% in FY 2025-26, Expanding to Over 80 Countries

New Delhi, April 2: The Indian government announced on Thursday a significant increase in defense exports for the fiscal year 2025-26, reaching a record ₹38,424 crore. This marks a remarkable 62.66% rise compared to ₹23,622 crore in the previous fiscal year.

According to the government, both defense public sector undertakings (DPSUs) and private companies played crucial roles in this achievement. DPSUs contributed 54.84% of the total exports, while private firms accounted for 45.16%.

The Ministry of Defense stated that this milestone aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to position India among the world’s leading defense exporters.

DPSUs experienced a staggering 151% increase in exports compared to last year, while the private sector also showed robust growth with a 14% rise. In terms of value, the private sector exported ₹17,353 crore, while DPSUs contributed ₹21,071 crore. Last fiscal year, these figures were ₹15,233 crore and ₹8,389 crore, respectively.

India is now not only a reliable global partner for defense systems and subsystems but is also exporting defense equipment to over 80 countries by FY 2026. The number of exporters has increased from 128 to 145, reflecting a 13.3% growth.

This trend indicates that Indian defense products are gaining rapid acceptance on the global stage, solidifying the sector’s position in the international supply chain.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised this outstanding performance, stating that India is swiftly moving towards becoming a global hub for defense manufacturing. He remarked on social media platform X that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India is scripting a new success story in defense exports.

The government noted that continuous efforts to improve the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and facilitate exporters have made India’s defense industry more competitive and performance-oriented.
