Washington: President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will reopen commercial airspace over Venezuela. He stated that this move marks the beginning of a new phase in relations between the two countries, with American oil companies now seeking opportunities to work in Venezuela.
During a cabinet meeting, Trump said he spoke with Venezuela’s interim president and has ordered immediate steps to restore travel between the nations. He confirmed that the entire commercial airspace over Venezuela would be opened, allowing American citizens to travel there soon.
Trump assured that travelers heading to Venezuela would be safe, emphasizing that the situation is fully under control.
The President noted that Venezuelans living in the US are closely watching this decision. He mentioned that residents of Miami’s Doral area, known as “Little Venezuela,” are very pleased with the development. Trump linked the change to a successful security operation and improving diplomatic ties. He also praised General Keen and his team for their efforts.
Highlighting the strengthened relationship, Trump said, “As you know, there was a situation regarding Venezuela. I want to thank General Keen and his staff for their work. We have been working very well together. The ties have grown stronger and much better.”
In the energy sector, Trump revealed that American oil companies have already begun operations in Venezuela. He added that major oil firms are exploring prospects and establishing their work bases there.
According to Trump, this will benefit both countries. He said the move will create significant value for Venezuela and the US, while the oil companies will also earn good profits.
Trump described the public reaction in Venezuela as very positive, saying, “People in Venezuela were genuinely waving American flags in the streets. They were very happy.”
He instructed Transport Minister Sean Duffy and related departments to expedite their work, stating that travel between both countries will now be possible. People coming from Venezuela can return or visit their families freely.
Venezuela holds one of the world’s largest proven oil reserves. Previously, US companies were active in its energy sector, but their operations had declined due to sanctions and regulations.
