New Delhi, August 13: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep concern over the incident involving debris and water accumulation in the THDC tunnel located in Pipalkoti, Chamoli district. He has directed that relief and rescue operations be conducted on a war footing.
In light of the seriousness of the situation, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been dispatched to the site immediately. The district administration, along with all relevant departments and agencies, has been instructed to coordinate and carry out swift relief and rescue efforts.
Chief Minister Dhami stated that he is in constant contact with senior officials to receive real-time updates on the situation. He emphasized that the government’s top priority is to safely evacuate every individual trapped in the tunnel, and all necessary resources have been allocated for this purpose.
He has also instructed officials to ensure that there is no slackness in the relief and rescue operations, and that every possible assistance is provided to the affected individuals and their families.
Praying for the safety of all involved, Chief Minister Dhami assured that the state government is monitoring the situation with utmost sensitivity and readiness, taking all necessary steps as required.
It is noteworthy that a land subsidence occurred in the tunnel of the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti hydroelectric project by THDC in Chamoli. So far, eight individuals have been rescued, while reports indicate that over 14 workers remain trapped inside. District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar has already departed for the site, and the SDRF has been called in for rescue operations.
