West Indies Announce Squad for Bangladesh Test Series, Kevin Wickham Earns First Call-Up

Antigua, October 14 (Daily Kiran) : The West Indies cricket team has officially announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh. This series, set to commence on October 28 in Mirpur, marks a significant opportunity for Kevin Wickham, who has been selected for the first time. The second Test will take place on November 5 in Sylhet.

Wickham’s selection comes after an impressive performance in the 2026 West Indies Championship, where the 23-year-old batsman scored three consecutive centuries. With an average exceeding 40 across 25 first-class matches, he has hit six centuries and is expected to bolster the middle order. Notably, white-ball captain Shai Hope has been rested for this series.

Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been withdrawn from the squad following routine medical assessments and expert advice. In consultation with Joseph, Cricket West Indies opted to manage his workload, although he remains part of the team for shorter formats. All-rounder Keemo Paul has been called up to replace him for the Test series.

John Campbell returns to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury. The team remains unchanged from the one that defeated Sri Lanka and drew with Pakistan over the summer. The squad includes three fast-bowling options, two fast-bowling all-rounders, and two specialist spinners.

Head coach Darren Sammy emphasized the team’s goals at the start of this World Test Championship cycle, stating that staying in the top half of the rankings is crucial. He acknowledged the challenges posed by playing in Bangladesh’s home conditions but expressed confidence in the team’s preparation.

This series will be the West Indies’ final outing in the World Test Championship 2025-27. The team is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on October 18 for a three-day warm-up match from October 22 to 24.

The West Indies squad for the Bangladesh Test series includes: Roston Chase (captain), Jomel Warrican (vice-captain), Joshua Bishop, John Campbell, Tejnarayan Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Amir Jangoo, Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Keemo Paul, Kemar Roach, Jaden Seales, and Kevin Wickham.
