Udaipur, 29 July 2025 — Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat on Tuesday raised the issue of religious conversions in Parliament, calling it a “cultural genocide” and urging the central government to bring a strict national-level law to curb illegal conversions across India.

Speaking under Rule 377, Dr. Rawat said that a planned network of illegal religious conversions is operating in many parts of the country, posing a serious threat to India’s cultural identity and social fabric.
“Conversions a Threat to National Security”
Dr. Rawat stated that these conversion activities, often disguised under secularism, are in fact part of an anti-national agenda. “It is not just a matter of religious identity, but a grave national security concern,” he said, alleging the involvement of radical groups, evangelical networks, and global terrorist organisations.
He pointed out that while 12 states have anti-conversion laws, they are weak and ineffective. Moreover, 16 states have no law at all to address this issue. “Some states remain indifferent due to political reasons,” he added.
“One Nation, One Law” Urged
Calling for a “One Nation, One Law” approach, Dr. Rawat urged the central government to bring a comprehensive and strict central law to prevent illegal conversions. He said, “This is a collective outcry from the common citizens of India.”
“Chhangur Baba a Clear Example of Organized Conspiracy”
Dr. Rawat referred to the recently arrested Chhangur Baba as a stark example of how conversion gangs are operating across the country. He said Chhangur Baba was part of a radical organisation and that police investigations revealed his international connections.
“Such elements have converted hundreds of Hindu girls, often through ‘Love Jihad’ tactics. The absence of a strong law allows these groups to continue their operations from different locations even after being caught,” he added.
“Conversion Networks Active in Tribal Areas Too”
Dr. Rawat also expressed concern over the targeting of tribal communities, alleging that conversion gangs are offering cash and material inducements to lure Hindu tribals. He claimed that several such networks have been caught in tribal areas, but political protection is allowing them to continue operating.
“Cultural Genocide Must Be Stopped”
“The planned conversion network is not just breaking communities but is a well-planned attack on the cultural and national integrity of India,” Dr. Rawat asserted. He concluded by reiterating the need for a strong central law to combat this national-level challenge in a unified manner.
