New Delhi, April 1: The UAE Ambassador to India, Abdulnaser Alshaali, has commended New Delhi’s involvement in the ongoing crisis in West Asia. He emphasized that India’s deep regional engagement and constructive diplomatic tradition lend significant weight to its voice in the region.
Ambassador Alshaali noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent phone call to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was seen as a gesture of brotherhood, reflecting the close ties developed over decades between the two leaders.
In a special conversation, Alshaali stated, “India’s role in this crisis has already received considerable appreciation. After the attacks began, Prime Minister Modi was among the first world leaders to call President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. That phone call is viewed as an act of fraternity and a reflection of the personal bond between the two leaders, who have built this partnership over more than a decade.”
He further mentioned, “India supported and co-sponsored UN Security Council Resolution 2817 with 135 countries. This resolution sends a powerful message that the international community will not tolerate attacks on state sovereignty or deliberate targeting of civilians and critical infrastructure. India is a major power with deep ties in the West Asian region, and its voice holds significance through the credibility of its strong and constructive diplomatic tradition.”
When asked about the rising tensions in the Gulf amid the Iran-Israel conflict, Alshaali pointed out that since February 28, Iran has been conducting a sustained campaign of “terrorist aggression” against the UAE and its neighbors.
He reported that as of March 29, 414 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,914 drones have targeted the UAE.
Alshaali expressed concern, stating, “What is particularly troubling is that these attacks are not directed at countries involved in conflict with Iran, but rather against its neighboring countries, which have consistently sought to prevent the escalation of conflict.”
When questioned about whether the UAE would retaliate against ongoing Iranian attacks, the ambassador stated that the country has maintained “cautious, balanced, and strategic restraint” during this crisis.
He also affirmed that the UAE has the complete and legitimate right under the UN Charter to defend its territory and prevent aggression, and it will take all necessary steps to ensure the security of its region, as well as the safety of its citizens and residents.
Alshaali remarked, “Iran has deliberately targeted missiles and drones at civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, airports, and other civilian facilities. These attacks have resulted in loss of life and property, which is entirely unacceptable and illegal. Meanwhile, the UAE Armed Forces have shown exceptional readiness in defending the country’s airspace and territory.”
He added that despite the “open aggression,” the UAE’s situation remains stable and under control. National institutions are operating at the highest level of readiness, critical sectors are functioning without disruption, and daily life continues normally.
The UAE ambassador also emphasized that the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors is the highest priority, which cannot be compromised.
Alshaali concluded, “Our approach has always leaned towards diplomacy, but diplomacy requires reciprocity. Iran cannot launch missiles at gas and oil sectors and civilian infrastructure while claiming to seek peace. The UAE’s sovereignty, its territorial integrity, and the safety of everyone here are non-negotiable.”
