Two Police Officers Arrested for Bribery at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad, April 8: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana has arrested an inspector and a sub-inspector stationed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport police station for accepting bribes.

According to the ACB, sub-inspector U.K. Siddheshwar and inspector Sampathi Kanakayya were caught red-handed while demanding ₹5 lakh from a complainant, of which they received an initial installment of ₹2 lakh. This operation was conducted by the Ranga Reddy range unit.

The officers allegedly solicited the bribe in exchange for filing a charge sheet in a case and for not involving or arresting the complainant’s family members. This incident is linked to the police station at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.

Following the arrests, the ACB searched inspector Kanakayya’s residence, where they seized ₹33.97 lakh in cash along with documents related to various properties, which are currently under investigation.

The ACB stated that both officers had misused their duties for personal gain. They were presented before a special court in Nampally, where they were remanded to judicial custody.

For security reasons, the identity of the complainant has been kept confidential. The ACB has urged the public to report any instances of bribery by government officials by calling the toll-free number 1064.

On Tuesday, the ACB also arrested Professor M. Govardhan, Associate Dean of Agronomy at the Agriculture College, for accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh. It was reported that he had previously accepted ₹25,000 as a bribe to facilitate the issuance of a seed license and to prevent any obstacles from the agriculture department.
