Medininagar, May 8: A tragic incident occurred in the Pahad Gerua village of the Palamu district in Jharkhand, where a dilapidated wall collapsed during renovation work on Friday afternoon. The collapse resulted in the deaths of two individuals trapped under the debris.
The victims have been identified as Satish Baitha (20), the son of the house owner Pradeep Baitha, also known as Gatauri Baitha, and a laborer named Dukhi Bhuiyan (60).
Pradeep Baitha’s old mud house was undergoing repairs, and the thatched roof had already been removed. Recent rains had weakened the mud walls, making them damp and unstable. Eyewitnesses reported that around 1 PM, Satish was sitting by the wall, taking a break and drinking water after assisting the workers when the crumbling wall suddenly fell on him.
Dukhi Bhuiyan died on the spot due to the collapse. Satish, who was seriously injured, was rushed to the MMC Hospital in Medininagar, where he was pronounced dead by doctors. The village is now engulfed in mourning following this tragic event.
Upon receiving the news, the officer in charge of the Vishrampur police station, Rishikesh Dubey, arrived at the scene with a police team to gather information. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
However, Satish’s family chose to take his body home without conducting a post-mortem. This incident has once again raised concerns about the safety precautions necessary during the renovation of dilapidated structures.
