TVK Demands Enhanced Security at Counting Centers Ahead of Tamil Nadu Elections

Chennai, May 2: The Tamilaga Vetria Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, has called for heightened security at counting centers across Tamil Nadu ahead of the assembly election results scheduled for May 4.

On Saturday, a delegation led by TVK’s General Secretary (Election Campaign Management) Aadhav Arjuna met with Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik at the Secretariat to submit a detailed memorandum regarding their concerns.

After the meeting, Aadhav Arjuna stated that the party has requested the deployment of additional armed police forces at all 62 counting centers in the state. They also proposed the establishment of a “sterile zone” within a one-kilometer radius of each center to prevent unauthorized crowds and ensure a controlled environment.

The TVK leader expressed serious concern over a recent incident of alleged arson at the party office in Srirangam, suggesting that such events could indicate attempts to disrupt the counting process.

He further claimed that there have been reports of potential intimidation attempts against party candidates and counting agents on the day of the results.

Aadhav Arjuna emphasized, “An independent and fair counting process is the cornerstone of electoral credibility. We have urged the authorities to take proactive measures to prevent any unpleasant incidents and maintain transparency and order throughout the process.”

The party has also demanded clear directives from the district administration, stringent monitoring, and the assurance of safety for all parties involved in the counting process, including candidates, agents, and staff.

Officials from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office confirmed receipt of the memorandum and stated that the concerns raised would be considered. They assured that necessary steps would be taken to ensure a peaceful and smooth counting process in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
