Trump Responds to Zelenskys Open Letter: Let Russia and Ukraine Resolve Their Dispute

Washington, June 6: During a media briefing at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the open letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Russian President Vladimir Putin, which included a proposal for a meeting.

President Trump noted that the Russian leader’s response to this initiative was not positive, indicating a lack of willingness to accept the proposal.

According to the United 24 media platform, President Trump emphasized that he does not oppose direct talks between the leaders of the two warring nations without American mediators.

The Adenkronos news agency reported, “I mean, let them resolve it. I am the one who brought them to this possibility. I believe everything will be resolved. This is a war that should never have started. Under my presidency, it would never have begun. But everything will be resolved.”

The U.S. President reiterated that the responsibility for this conflict lies with former President Joe Biden, who took office in 2022 when the Russian military launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine.

Earlier, Trump expressed his satisfaction with the potential progress on this matter.

Meanwhile, large-scale drone attacks continue between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine launched a significant strike in the St. Petersburg area, where the International Economic Forum is currently taking place, and where Vladimir Putin delivered a full speech on Friday.

Russian officials reported that 86 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and shot down in the city area near the Baltic Sea. The regional governor, Alexander Drozdenko, wrote on Telegram, “Combat operations are ongoing.”

According to Moscow’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, over 376 drones were intercepted overnight across the Federation, including eight targeting Moscow.

Recently, drones from Kyiv reportedly attacked the St. Petersburg oil terminal and the Kronstadt military base, located approximately 1,100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. As with previous attacks, operations at Pulkovo Airport were temporarily halted on Saturday.
