Rahul Gandhi Heads to Sultanpur for Defamation Case Hearing
Rahul Gandhi travels to Sultanpur for a court hearing regarding a defamation case linked to comments about Amit Shah.

Sultanpur, October 26 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi departed from his residence in New Delhi on Monday morning, heading to Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He is set to appear in a special MP-MLA court regarding a defamation case connected to his comments about former BJP president Amit Shah.
The Sultanpur MP-MLA court is expected to announce its verdict in the defamation case against Gandhi. Given the significance of the ruling, he is likely to be present during the proceedings.
This case dates back to 2018 when Rahul Gandhi made disparaging remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a conference in Bengaluru. Following these comments, Vijay Mishra, the then BJP district vice president, filed a lawsuit against Gandhi.
Mishra, a resident of Hanumanganj in the Kotwali Dehat area of Sultanpur district, claimed that he was hurt by Gandhi’s remarks and subsequently lodged a defamation complaint in court. The MP-MLA court summoned Gandhi on December 16, 2023, leading to his appearance in court where he was granted bail.
In February 2024, the special court in Sultanpur granted him bail again, during which Gandhi denied the allegations, asserting his innocence. Since then, the case has progressed with statements and other judicial proceedings. After the completion of evidence collection, the court set the case for final arguments.
Later, Vijay Mishra requested a comparison of Gandhi’s voice samples, but the trial court rejected this petition. Both the session court and the Allahabad High Court also dismissed his appeals challenging the court’s decisions. As the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi awaits a verdict, all eyes are on the court’s announcement this Monday.
