12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum Kicks Off Today in New Delhi

The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum begins today, focusing on parliamentary cooperation and people-centric development.

New Delhi, October 26 (Daily Kiran) : The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum is set to commence today in the Central Hall of the Constitution House within the Parliament complex in New Delhi. This two-day event, taking place on October 26 and 27, will bring together parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner countries to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and discuss people-centric development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to participate in the forum and engage with leaders of delegations from various nations.

On Sunday, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma, arrived in India and held significant discussions with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. During their meeting, both Indian and Russian parliamentary delegations emphasized the need to enhance cooperation on global platforms and to work together in combating terrorism.

In an official statement, Birla warmly welcomed Volodin and his delegation on behalf of the Indian Parliament and its 1.4 billion citizens. He highlighted the special and longstanding friendship between India and Russia, which is built on mutual trust, respect, and shared aspirations.

Birla praised Russia’s continued support in India’s fight against terrorism and stressed the importance of unity and resolve from the international community in addressing this threat. He stated, “The international community must show solidarity against terrorism and work together for global peace.”

With 2027 marking 80 years of diplomatic relations between India and Russia, Birla noted that the ‘special and privileged strategic partnership’ under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin has grown even stronger.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament House on Thursday, Birla remarked, “This forum marks a new chapter in the history of India’s parliamentary diplomacy.” He mentioned that the event will include presiding officers and parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, along with central ministers, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh, state assembly presiding officers, MPs, and other dignitaries.

Highlighting the main theme of the forum, Birla stated that it will focus on empowering parliaments for people-centric development, emphasizing the role of parliamentary institutions in advancing development based on the needs and aspirations of the public.
