Transformation of Border Areas: Infrastructure and Connectivity Improvements Highlighted by Minister Jitendra Singh

Minister Jitendra Singh discusses the significant development in border areas, emphasizing improved infrastructure and connectivity in Kathua.

Kathua, October 26 (Daily Kiran) : Development is taking shape in the remote and sensitive areas along the Pakistan border, according to Union Minister Jitendra Singh. These regions, once struggling with basic amenities and security challenges, are now witnessing an expansion of roads, mobile connectivity, and public facilities. During a recent public outreach program in the border area, Singh highlighted the government’s initiatives aimed at addressing local issues and enhancing infrastructure.

“We are almost at the zero line, which marks the international border with Pakistan,” Singh stated. “For the first time in over a decade, residents are benefiting from improved facilities since Prime Minister Modi’s administration began. Previously, there were no mobile towers, communication was poor, and children’s education was affected due to a lack of roads.”

Singh pointed out that the government has established a network of roads and mobile towers in these areas. He noted that reservations near the Line of Control, which were previously unavailable, have now been provided. This public program was significant in showcasing the government’s commitment to local development.

In recent years, the administration has made efforts to engage with citizens at the block and panchayat levels, rather than limiting interactions to district offices. This approach allows officials to directly hear and address the concerns of the community. Singh remarked that many issues can be resolved on the spot during these interactions.

He acknowledged that villagers often feel hesitant to approach government offices. The public outreach initiative gives them a chance to meet officials face-to-face and voice their concerns. The latest session lasted two to two and a half hours, resolving numerous issues immediately or creating a roadmap for future solutions.

Singh also discussed the establishment of bunkers in the region, which began in 2015. Initially, around 2,500 bunkers were constructed, followed by an additional 1,000. These bunkers are equipped with amenities comparable to small flats. He noted that, thanks to PM Modi’s support, cross-border firing has significantly decreased, marking a stark contrast to the past when residents faced regular gunfire.

The minister emphasized that the changes in the lives of people in border areas are evident. He mentioned that while train services were suspended nationwide during the pandemic, many have since resumed, with new services, including two Vande Bharat trains, being introduced.

Efforts continue to restore train services where there is high passenger demand. Singh explained that halting a train, even briefly, incurs additional costs for the railway. He reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the community’s needs, including the successful request for a stop for the Jammu Mail train in the area.

The transformation in these border regions reflects a concerted effort to enhance the quality of life for residents, ensuring they have access to essential services and infrastructure.
