Tripura Chief Minister Promises Comprehensive Development for Tribal Communities

Agartala, April 5: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Sunday that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council, it will ensure the comprehensive social and economic development of tribal communities.

While releasing the BJP’s “Sankalp Patra” ahead of the elections scheduled for April 12, the Chief Minister emphasized the party’s commitment to fulfilling every promise made and dedicated efforts towards the welfare and empowerment of tribal communities.

The “Sankalp Patra” was unveiled at the headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council in Khumulwng. Chief Minister Saha told the media, “The document prioritizes the overall development of the tribal population, focusing on economic growth, social upliftment, and the preservation of cultural and linguistic heritage.”

He outlined plans to enhance access to education, strengthen skill development, and create new employment opportunities for the youth. The BJP aims to establish a “Developed Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council,” which will be based on prosperity, identity, and inclusive development for all.

Present at the event were Lok Sabha MP and BJP Northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra, Tripura BJP State President Rajiv Bhattacharya, Minister Bikash Debbarma, Santana Chakma, and former Lok Sabha member Reboti Tripura.

Other pre-election promises from the BJP include granting proper recognition to Kokborok and other tribal languages, democratically forming village committees, and measures to preserve the customs and traditions of tribal society.

The “Sankalp Patra” also proposes establishing weaving and handicraft training centers in every sector, creating hostels for girls in each tribal district, and developing smart and modern office buildings in every village committee area.

Additionally, there are commitments to adopt systems for the production, collection, packaging, and marketing of forest products under the Prime Minister’s Van Dhan Yojana, strengthen self-help groups for tribal women, and promote the “Lakhpati Didi” program.

The BJP has also proposed renaming the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council to “Tripura Autonomous Territorial Council,” establishing martial arts academies in tribal areas, and documenting and scientifically developing traditional tribal medicinal practices.

The plan also highlights the Chief Minister’s vision of a “Drug-Free Tripura,” which will be strictly enforced through the administration of the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council.

Voting for the 30-member council (28 elected and 2 nominated by the state government) will take place on April 12. Since 2021, the ruling BJP’s ally, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), has been administering this significant council, which controls nearly two-thirds of Tripura’s 10,491 square kilometers.
