Tripura: Assam Rifles Seizes Gold Worth Rs 19 Crore in Major Anti-Smuggling Operation

Agartala: Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), conducted a significant crackdown on gold smuggling and financial crimes in Tripura. On Wednesday, authorities seized gold biscuits worth nearly Rs 19 crore and an unaccounted Indian currency amounting to Rs 2.87 crore, officials confirmed.

According to a defence spokesperson, the operation was carried out following secret intelligence inputs at two locations — Shantipara in the city centre and Dhaleshwar on the outskirts of Agartala. Three individuals, identified as Kunal Jaiswal, Ajay Naha, and Rakesh Das, were arrested during the raids.

The spokesperson detailed that approximately 14 kilograms of gold biscuits, valued at about Rs 19 crore, along with Rs 2.87 crore in Indian currency, were recovered during the operation.

This successful seizure was the result of coordinated efforts by Assam Rifles and the DRI, based on precise intelligence inputs. The confiscated gold and cash have been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and legal action.

A statement from Assam Rifles highlighted that this campaign reflects ongoing vigilance and joint efforts with other agencies aimed at curbing illegal activities and maintaining regional security.

In a related intelligence-driven operation targeting counterfeit goods, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department in Silchar, Assam, seized counterfeit cigarettes worth Rs 34 lakh from a warehouse. The shipment was intended for distribution to other states via Silchar.

The spokesperson noted that Assam Rifles and the Customs Department in Silchar are playing a leading role in regular operations to disrupt and dismantle fake goods networks in the region. This seizure marks a significant achievement in efforts to combat the trafficking of counterfeit products.
