New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm wishes to citizens on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami. He took to the social media platform X on Friday to convey his greetings.
In his post, PM Modi wrote, “Wishing you all a very happy Janmashtami. The divine messages of Lord Krishna inspire selfless action, guiding humanity continuously. May this sacred occasion, dedicated to his devotion and worship, fill everyone’s life with positive energy and strength. Jai Shri Krishna.”
Additionally, he shared a Sanskrit verse from the ‘Krishna Ashtakshara’ stotra, stating: “Vasudevasutam devam Kamsa Chanura Mardhanam, Devaki Paramanandam Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum.”
The verse translates to: “I bow to Lord Shri Krishna, the son of Vasudeva, the divine form who vanquished Kansa and Chanura, and who brings supreme joy to his mother Devaki.”
This well-known verse is the first shloka or mangalacharan from the ‘Krishna Ashtakshara’ composed by Adi Shankaracharya. The ‘Krishna Ashtakshara’ is a revered hymn consisting of eight verses dedicated to Lord Krishna, authored by the great proponent of Advaita Vedanta.
Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. According to ancient beliefs, it is observed on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada, marking the moment when Lord Vishnu incarnated as Krishna, born to Devaki and Vasudeva at midnight. This joyous occasion is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country each year.
