Pune, August 9: A training aircraft from a private company crashed at Baramati Airport on Sunday. Fortunately, there were no casualties, although the aircraft sustained minor damage.
Initial reports indicate that the aircraft belonged to ‘Carver Aviation’, a pilot training company. It was noted that the training aircraft skidded off the runway. Authorities, including the police, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. According to police, no injuries were reported.
The Superintendent of Police stated that the aircraft went off the runway around noon during a training exercise at Baramati airfield. The aircraft had taken off for practice at 6:39 AM (UTC). On board were Captain Chirag Shashikant Doifode and Cadet Abhijit Jundre.
The SP explained that the aircraft initially approached the runway via Link Bravo and aligned at the threshold of Runway 29. However, it executed a rejected takeoff at this point. Subsequently, the aircraft was realigned at the threshold of Runway 11, where another rejected takeoff occurred. During this exercise, the aircraft was unable to stop completely on the runway and went beyond the threshold of Runway 29.
Earlier, on May 13, another training aircraft crashed in Baramati, but no serious injuries were reported. Just before landing, a part of the aircraft collided with a power pole. It was reported that the aircraft was flying at a low altitude when it experienced a technical failure. During the crash landing, a part of the aircraft hit the pole before making contact with the ground.
In January, a plane crash near Baramati Airport involved Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, resulting in his death along with four others.
