Riyadh, August 9: The Yemeni group Houthi has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on a Saudi Aramco refinery site in Jazan on Sunday morning. Following the attack, a fire broke out at the refinery, which the Saudi administration reported was quickly extinguished.
According to Al Masirah TV, the Yemeni group targeted the Saudi Aramco oil facility in Jazan. In a statement, they indicated that the drone strike was a response to Saudi drone attacks on Yemen’s Saada and Hajjah provinces.
The Saudi Ministry of Energy confirmed the fire at the Aramco refinery site in Jubail and Jazan on Sunday morning. Reports indicated a loud and powerful explosion was heard in the Jubail area, with claims that the gas facility in Jubail Industrial City was also targeted, resulting in a fire.
The Saudi Energy Ministry stated that firefighters had successfully extinguished the fire at the Aramco refinery site in Jazan, located near the Red Sea by the Yemeni border. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Foreign Ministry welcomed a statement from the UN Security Council condemning the Houthi rebels’ missile attacks against the country and commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
The ministry reiterated its appeal to the international community to adopt a firm stance against actions and violations that threaten the security and stability of the region, navigation, and global commerce, as well as obstruct ongoing efforts for peace in Yemen.
In a statement, UNSC members condemned the unauthorized landings of aircraft at Sana’a Airport on July 3 and Hodeidah Airport on July 13, which were conducted without the approval of Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
The council reiterated that UNSC Resolution 2216 prohibits the supply, sale, or transfer of arms and related materials to banned individuals and entities, including the Houthis.
