New Delhi, August 9: Congress MP Sukdev Bhagat has responded to the ongoing student protests in Jharkhand, addressing issues of delimitation and women’s reservation.
In a conversation regarding statements made by Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhagat noted that while Mohan Bhagwat engages with students, neither the Prime Minister nor the Home Minister has issued any statements. He criticized Pradhan for allegedly misleading the Gen-Z demographic, questioning whether student issues are no longer relevant to them.
Regarding the student movement in Jharkhand, Bhagat stated that the government is in dialogue with students. He believes that discussions are taking place with every wing involved in the protests. Rahul Gandhi has expressed solidarity with student issues, emphasizing that regardless of the government in power, the concerns of students must be addressed. Chief Minister Hemant Soren is reportedly taking sensitive actions, with 19 individuals arrested in connection with the protests.
Soren has asserted that he will not back down, even if the investigation reaches the Chief Minister’s residence. Continuous actions are being taken by Soren’s administration, and Bhagat is hopeful for concrete steps regarding the legitimate demands of the students.
On the issue of delimitation, Bhagat commented on a recent meeting in Tamil Nadu where not all MPs were present. He reaffirmed their opposition to the delimitation process, expressing skepticism about the government’s hurried approach to passing the bill.
In response to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on employment, Bhagat criticized the central government for attempting to impose a particular ideology and distorting history, a point highlighted by Gandhi.
Regarding women’s reservation, Bhagat stated that Congress has always respected women. However, any bill introduced must be done with clear intentions. He recalled how the last bill was presented, attempting to set a narrative that the opposition did not support it.
