Fatehgarh Sahib, August 9: A tragic road accident occurred on the GT Road in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, early Saturday morning, resulting in the deaths of three Kanwariyas and leaving one person seriously injured. The police are currently investigating the incident.
According to reports, a group of Kanwariyas was returning from Haridwar with sacred water for Shivratri when a speeding truck collided with them from behind around 2:30 AM. The impact of the crash was so severe that chaos ensued at the scene. All victims were rushed to the hospital, but three were pronounced dead upon arrival. One individual is still receiving treatment.
Mukesh Kumar, a volunteer from the Shiv Seva Kanwad Sangh, stated, “The accident happened around 2:30 AM on the main highway. An unidentified truck driver hit them and fled the scene. Six people were involved in the accident, of whom three died, and one is critically injured. The other two are fine. All were residents of Faridkot.”
The deceased and the injured were traveling to Faridkot with Ganga water, hoping to reach home before Shivratri.
Mukesh Kumar further explained, “Kanwariyas prefer using the main highway for safety reasons, as there are often robbers on the lower GT Road.”
Currently, the bodies of the deceased are undergoing post-mortem examinations. Afterward, ambulances from the Bhai Kanhaiya Seva Society and the Human Blood Donation Association will transport the bodies back to Faridkot.
The police have arrived at the scene and have begun their investigation, searching for the fleeing vehicle and driver.
