Tragic Suicide of Student in Ghaziabad Ahead of NEET Exam Raises Concerns

Ghaziabad, June 21: A heartbreaking incident has emerged from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. A 22-year-old student, Jatin Kumar, took his own life just two days before the NEET examination. This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and sent it for an autopsy. They are currently questioning the deceased’s family and neighbors.

Jatin, a resident of Pratap Vihar in the Vijayanagar police station area, was preparing for the NEET exam. His family discovered him hanging from the ceiling fan in his room on Friday morning. Before his death, Jatin recorded a one-minute and four-second video in which he stated that he felt no pressure or stress regarding the NEET exam. However, he did mention feeling somewhat sad. The police have recovered the video and initiated an investigation.

A family member expressed shock, stating, “I was not there at the time. He had a very good nature; he was a cheerful child. There was never any visible pressure on him or the family regarding the NEET exam. Until 8 PM, he was happily talking to his grandfather… We are all stunned by this incident.”

Earlier, on June 17, a student preparing for the NEET exam in Delhi reportedly committed suicide. The deceased, identified as Renu, lived with her family in the Palam area of southwest Delhi.

Initial investigations revealed that Renu had taken the NEET exam on May 3, and since the exam was canceled, she had reportedly been struggling with depression. The police noted that Renu’s father had gone to his in-laws’ house after the death of his father-in-law on June 13. Renu was home alone at the time of the incident and allegedly hanged herself that evening.

A suicide note found at the scene indicated her mental distress. In the note, she apologized to her parents, stating that she had not lived up to their expectations. The family originally hails from Rajasthan.

This incident raises significant concerns about the mental health of students preparing for competitive exams, especially in light of recent controversies surrounding the NEET exam and allegations of paper leaks.
