Noida, July 28: On Tuesday, rainfall brought relief from the heat and humidity to residents, but it also exposed significant flaws in the city’s drainage system. The intermittent rain lasted for about an hour and a half, accompanied by strong winds, creating pleasant weather. However, many major roads and residential areas faced severe waterlogging, causing considerable inconvenience to the public.
In several locations, water reached knee-deep levels, and in some areas, it even entered homes. The worst-hit regions included Barola, Safarabad, Sector 75, Sector 74, Sector 19, Sector 20, and Nithari, where the waterlogging situation was critical. The long-standing drainage issues in Barola village resurfaced once again.
The accumulation of water on the roads forced drivers and pedestrians to struggle for hours. Reports also emerged of water entering multiple homes in Sector 27, leading to significant damage and discomfort for local residents. The impact of the rain was evident on Noida’s prominent DSC Road, where a nearly 50-meter-long wall of the central verge collapsed.
According to reports, the continuous rainfall caused water to accumulate in the central verge, leading to a strong current that damaged the wall. Fortunately, the metro pillars located in the same area remained completely safe and unaffected. The authorities promptly cleared the debris to restore normal traffic flow.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next two days. The department predicts the likelihood of thunderstorms and rain during this period. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature recorded was 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25 degrees Celsius.
The weather department estimates that if heavy rain occurs in the afternoon, temperatures could drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. In response to the flooding situation, Noida Authority’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Krishna Karunesh has taken a firm stance.
He expressed deep dissatisfaction over the long-standing waterlogging issues, particularly in Barola village, which were highlighted again on Tuesday. Considering the negligence in drainage management and delays in development work as serious issues, he has ordered immediate punitive action.
As a result of the CEO’s directives, the services of Junior Engineer (JE) Parth Rathod and Supervisor Mangeram have been terminated with immediate effect. Additionally, Manager Karan Singh Tyagi (Civil) and Ramendra (Water and Sewer) received adverse entries for failing to effectively manage the flooding situation.
The CEO has issued a stern warning to all officials and staff of the authority’s work circles, stating that any negligence in addressing waterlogging or other fundamental issues in the future will lead to even stricter actions against the responsible officials.
He clarified that the priority of the authority is to provide relief to residents from flooding and ensure the quality of development work.
