Bengaluru, August 31: Once struggling with financial hardships, Bengaluru shopkeeper T.S. Ningamma and her family have turned their lives around. Daily expenses were a constant challenge. However, a loan from the Prime Minister Svanidhi (PM Svanidhi) scheme has changed everything for them.
Today, Ningamma and her husband run a thriving business selling idli, dosa, and sambar, significantly improving their financial situation.
Ningamma’s inspiring journey was highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his radio program “Mann Ki Baat” on Sunday. He praised her entrepreneurial spirit and wished her a bright future.
The Prime Minister noted that Ningamma enhanced her stall with the help of the PM Svanidhi scheme and expanded her menu with new dishes. This led to an increase in customers, improved income, and a stronger financial standing for her family. She is now able to provide better education for her three children.
In an interview, Ningamma shared that the PM Svanidhi scheme has been a blessing for her family. “We benefited immensely from this scheme. We took loans of 10,000, 20,000, and 50,000 rupees. This helped us improve our shop, fund our children’s education, and stabilize our lives. Initially, we lacked the resources to start the shop,” she explained.
She added, “Before taking the loan, I had nothing to set up a stall. I used to cook at home and sell food on a table. With the first loan of 10,000 rupees, I bought a cart and new utensils. Gradually, the business grew, I paid my children’s school fees, and then received a 20,000 rupee loan. With that money, I expanded the shop, hired some staff, and advanced the business.”
Ningamma expressed her joy at being mentioned by the Prime Minister on “Mann Ki Baat,” stating that it is a tremendous honor for her and her family. “I am very happy. The Prime Minister recognized our efforts, and my entire family feels proud. My brother, sister-in-law, and parents are all extremely happy,” she said.
Launched in June 2020, the PM Svanidhi scheme is a special initiative that provides easy, collateral-free loans to street vendors. Over time, the scheme has evolved beyond just a loan program, becoming a vital means of financial empowerment, digital inclusion, and social security for millions of small businesses.
